PAL: Official Carrier of the 2019 Southeast Asian Games

Aviation Updates Philippines – Four Star Carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL) will fly sports leaders from different Asian countries to Manila for the upcoming 2019 Southeast Asian Games.

Also known as Philippines 2019, the 30th edition of the SEA Games will be staged from November 30 to December 11, 2019 at designated locations: Metro Manila, Clark and Subic. This will be the fourth time that the Philippines will host the SEA games, and the first time since 2005.

The partnership agreement granting Official Carrier status to PAL was signed at a ceremony in Bonifacio Global City on February 13, 2019.

The official signatories included PAL President and Chief Operating Officer Jaime J. Bautista, PAL Corporate Communications Vice President Josen Perez de Tagle, together with PHISGOC (Philippine Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee) Executive Board Chairman Alan Peter S. Cayetano, Philippine Sports Commission Chairman Butch Ramirez, Philippine Olympic Committee President Ricky Vargas, and PHISGOC Executive Director Ramon Suzara.

"By serving as the official carrier, we bring together the movers and shakers of Southeast Asian sports. It is a privilege to be part of a mission that promotes sportsmanship, teamwork and unity, and brings honor and glory to the Philippines as the host and athletic competitor," stated PAL President Bautista.

Philippine Airlines operates an extensive regional network from various Asian cities that will be sending athletes to the SEA Games, including Bangkok, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Phnom Penh and Jakarta. (The SEA Games participants will hail from all ASEAN nations along with Timor Leste.)

The much awaited sporting event will feature three sports categories: Category 1: Athletics and Aquatics; Category 2: Archery, Badminton, Baseball/Softball, Basketball, Billiards, 10-pin Bowling, Boxing, Canoe/Traditional Boat Race, Chess, Cycling, Dance Sport, Fencing, Football, Golf, Gymnastics, Handball, Hockey, Ice hockey, Ice skating, Judo, Karatedo, Modern Pentathlon, Muay, Pencak Silat, Polo, Rowing, Rugby Sevens, Sailing/Windsurfing, Sepak Takraw, Skateboarding, Shooting, Soft Tennis, Squash, Surfing, Table Tennis, Triathlon, Volleyball, Weightlifting, Wrestling, and Wushu; and Category 3: Arnis, Floorball, Jujitsu, Kickboxing, Kurash, Lawn Bowls/Petanque, Netball, Obstacle Course, Sambo/Vovinam, Underwater Hockey, and Wakeboarding.
