TWELVE YEARS IN THE MAKING. On Friday, Garuda Indonesia pioneered the revival of the Manado-Davao air route, flying twice weekly. Photo from SunStar Davao.

Flights between the two business-centered cities are operated twice-weekly every Monday and Friday on-board Garuda's 70-seat ATR 72-600.

Although it was previously reported in AUP that Garuda will operate CRJ flights to Davao and Manila, the airline pushed through only with the Davao launch using the ATR.

The long-awaited revival of the route, which was ceased since 12 years ago, was welcomed by the local city governments of Davao City and Manado.

On-board the inaugural flight was Philippine Ambassador to Indonesia Leehiong Wee. Officials from the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDa), the Philippines East Asean Growth Area (EAGA) and the Indonesian Consulate General hosted the reception for the event.

Prior to his flight to Davao, Mr. Wee, in an interview by the Philippine News Agency, said “[t]he Manado-Davao direct flight by Garuda Indonesia will bring our two countries ever closer together, providing the impetus to increasing trade, development, tourism, people-to-people exchanges, between Indonesia and the Philippines.”

MinDa told BusinessWorld: "this is a strategic route under the transport and connectivity of the BIMP-EAGA that strengthens Mindanao, through Davao, as a gateway to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean)."

GA-7401 departs from Manado at 10:30 am and arrives in Davao at 12:30 pm. After a 45-minute turnaround time, GA-7402 departs from Davao at 1:15 pm and arrives back in Manado at 3:10 pm.
