In a Facebook post, Philippine Airlines Spokesperson Cielo Villaluna said the airline will deploy its 199-seat Airbus A321-231 aircraft for a rescue flight to Filipinos and foreign nationals. The first flight will depart from Manila at 6:30 pm local time.

PAL will operate a total of two roundtrip flights to the Mactan-Cebu International Airport from Manila until past midnight. Additionally, PAL will also operate a sweeper flight bound for Tokyo-Narita "to bring stranded Japanese tourists in Cebu back to their home county via PR 5434," Villaluna said.

As the Philippines continues to report double-digit additions in its Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) statistics, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte put the country under a state of calamity for six months to draft a more effective battle plan against the spreading disease.

As of March 18, 2020, the Philippines Department of Health (DOH) has already reported 202 cases of the COVID-19. The DOH, today, also reported three additional fatalities from the disease raising the country's death statistics to 17.
