Aviation Updates Philippines – The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) management in Butuan spearheaded a relief operation at Purok 9 in Barangay Bancasi, Butuan to help in the government's efforts to assist families amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to CAAP-Butuan, the relief operation was realized after Communication Navigation Surveillance System Officer (CNSSO) Christopher Galvez pledged his savings for the Butuan airport's porters who lost their source of livelihood.

Due to Galvez's generosity, the rest of the airport's staff donated a part of their savings and accumulated more than Php 50,000. The funds were used to procure food packs containing 4 kilos of rice, loaf bread, instant coffee packs, 1-kilo sugar, hotdogs, and cooking oil, which was then packed by volunteer airport personnel.

"It is truly moving to see the selflessness and humanitarianism of our airport staff and to see the smiles we have brought to the people within the airport community. With the uncertainty brought about by COVID-19, CAAP Butuan will do its best in assisting our staff, such as our porters, and the neediest residents in the vicinity of the airport," CAAP Area 12 General Manager Evangeline Daba said.

Since the start of the community quarantine, Butuan airport already organized four relief operations for its airport porters.

Editor's note: Cheers to the airport staff behind such a generous idea! Keep safe to all our aviation frontliners on-duty.
