Aviation Updates Philippines – China Southern Airlines and China Eastern Airlines will each resume Airbus A330 flights to Manila from Guangzhou and Shanghai-Pudong, respectively, starting June 2020. The two airlines filed one-weekly each for June based on their websites.

These are still subject to change. However, the extension of the enhanced community quarantine have pushed back these plans even further. In the first version of the post, we have reported that these two planned to resume operations next month, but it has since been deferred.

Beginning June 11, 2020, China Southern will operate flights from Guangzhou to Manila every Thursday on-board the Airbus A330-300 aircraft. Prior to the announcement of the community quarantine extension, the airline filed for a supposed resumption on May 7, 2020.

Meanwhile, China Eastern also plans to resume flights for its Shanghai Pudong-Manila service starting June 16, 2020. From the supposed service resumption on May 5, 2020, the flight has been delayed to mid-June given the lengthened quarantine in Metro Manila.

MU-211 will depart from Shanghai at 9:35 pm local time and will arrive at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila at 1:20 am local time. MU-212, the return flight, will depart from Manila at 3:55 am local time and will arrive back in Shanghai at 7:40 am local time.

China Eastern's Shanghai-Manila air service will be operated by an Airbus A330-200 aircraft. The Manila-bound sector flies every Tuesday while the Shanghai-bound sector flies every Wednesday.

According to China Eastern, its flights from Shanghai to Clark and Cebu remain suspended for May. Passengers who purchased tickets with a scheduled departure between January 24, 2020, until June 30, 2020, are eligible for a one-time rebooking or full refund.

These flights, however, may not be intended for leisure travel in light of the enforcement of the enhanced community quarantine in Metro Manila. Furthermore, this will serve as a linkage for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and authorities on official business to the Philippines.

Note: The Ninoy Aquino International Airport is open for international flight operations except for countries with travel restrictions. Korean Air, Japan Airlines, Qatar Airways, among others, continue their operations in Manila.

This article has been published prior to the extension of the enhanced community quarantine in Manila. The news was not intended to be a source of panic but was intended to inform Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and authorities who might want to return to the Philippines and those Chinese nationals who might want to return to their country.
