Philippines AirAsia mounts sweeper flights

Aviation Updates Philippines – The Philippine unit of Asia's largest budget airline AirAsia mounted this week several sweeper flights for those affected by the enhanced community quarantine situation in Luzon, as well as in different parts of the country.

"These special recovery flights are in response to requests from various organizations, including local and international government agencies," AirAsia said.

Recently, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) chartered 16 domestic sweeper flights on May 25, 2020, and another 26 flights on May 26, 2020. As of today, more flights are being undertaken by AirAsia to continue its mission — bringing home our kababayans.

AirAsia said it is ready to mount additional recovery flights as required. However, flight schedules may change on short notice "given the nature of the ever-changing situation at this time," it said.

To reassure passengers' safety on its flights, AirAsia said it is "complying with advice and regulations from the local government, civil aviation authorities, global and local health agencies, including the World Health Organization."

"AirAsia assures that the safety and wellbeing of our guests and Allstars is our top priority."

Before arriving from foreign countries, passengers are required to undergo COVID-19 testing at the airport or a designated testing facility. Pending test results, passengers will be quarantined at approved facilities before they are released for another 14-day home quarantine if the results yield negative.
